Do you have Satellite TV?

September 2, 2010 |  by Susan  |  All Posts  |  No Comments

We have satellite TV in our RV. We had it in our house too (when we had a house lol). In fact we have had satellite TV for going on 4 years now and personally I love it.  My parents have cable and I am always trying to convince them to switch.   I get that people may find cable easier with not having to have a satellite dish and all but really it is no big deal to switch to “Dish TV“.

I do think satellite TV may be a bit more expensive then regular cable but I know for me the little extra expense is worth it.  I find the programming to be much better then cable also.   Do you ever wonder how your cable TV rates are determined?  Well you can find out about TV pricing right from the FCC and find out about their regulation of cable TV rates.

Plus satellite TV always has plenty of direct satellite TV offers, especially for new customers.  Everything from free HD for life, 5 months of choice programming for free (when you sign up for special offers).  Satellite TV also has great deals on programming packages that are as much as half off regular prices for your first 12 months of service.  And don’t forget the satellite dish installation.  They also have packages that cover that and will get you free professional installation of your dish.

With all the deals, offers, and specials on satellite TV just perhaps you’ll come out ahead on the cost over cable and have some awesome programming to keep you entertained for a long time.

Do you share music with your teenager?

August 18, 2010 |  by Susan  |  All Posts  |  No Comments

My son is 15 1/2 and he is always introducing me to new music.  I don’t spend much time on YouTube, but if i was his age I am sure I would.  When I was his age I was a total 80′s music whore.  We didn’t have computers so my life was music and any music videos I could find on television (no cable TV in those days either).  Luckily 90%  of the music he finds I like and he listens to a wide variety of genres.  Some of the groups I know, just not the particular song he’s found.  I like that it is something we can share and in the process I get introduced to new groups and songs I never would’ve found or heard on my own.

Here is a song he played for me just yesterday and I liked it immediately.  He actually found it by accident while looking for something else. Those can be the best finds.

So without further ado, here is the group Scissor Sisters with the song Laura.

Back2School tips from Parents.com

August 16, 2010 |  by Susan  |  All Posts, Reviews/Giveaways  |  1 Comment

Parents.com always has wonderful advice and good articles for parents, and getting your kids back to school is no exception.

At parents.com they have an article showing you “15+ ways to boost school success”. There are categories like showing support, encourage learning, encourage social skills and setting up a learning environment with tips under each category to help your child as they return back to school.

Next they have information on “How To Pack Lunch Like A Celebrity Chef“.  My son is always asking to get a lunch box (I think they actually call them lunch kits these days).  And I would let him if I even had a clue how to make his lunch exciting and nutritious  and not the routine peanut butter and jelly every day.  This article gives multiple suggestions from multiple celebrity chefs about some really cool and delicious foods and snacks to fill in your child’s lunch kit.

If you have a younger child going to preschool or just starting kindergarten then this article is for you ” Preparing for Separation Anxiety“.  There is nothing harder on a parent then dropping off your child on the first day of school and having them crying for you as you are forced to leave them in a strange place.  This article covers What to do before school starts (the weeks leading up to school), what to do the first day of school, and reader’s tips on how they dealt with separation anxiety in their children.  There are some great tips that will surely make the transition easier on both you and your child.

And finally don’t forget,  that just about anything parenting related can be found at parents.com

You really couldn’t have paid me to guess this

August 6, 2010 |  by Susan  |  All Posts, RV life  |  1 Comment

Guess what you ask? Guess that I am back in AZ. How did this happen? After spending 5 months here last winter/spring dh said he missed the kids and I so much that he wouldn’t offer AZ as an option again. Hmmm, I guess the 2 months we spent with him this summer was more then he could handle LOL.

Midway through the summer he made a comment about I might be able to come back to AZ. But I told him he needn’t worry cause I had decided not to go to AZ. BUT THEN….. a couple weeks later he offered the AZ option to me again! Do you think he was trying to get rid of me?

Actually we/he wasn’t sure where work would be and for how long. First we were going to Chattanooga, TN then that changed to Beaumont, TX. Maybe if we had more time to see how things would work out but it seems all the places we might have ended up were starting school in early August. There was just no time so off to AZ I went.

Once the decision was made to leave then the fun began (driving the 1600 mile trip). Dh headed off to TX while I headed west. My kids are monsters to begin with, but 3 days in a car with them was more then I could seriously tolerate. Add a 3 month old puppy to the mix and now we are having a blast. Do you know how many truck stops, rest areas and public restrooms are between Nashville and phoenix? Well, I don’t know the exact number but I think we stopped at every last one of them. Every stop also resulted in whining, crying and begging for candy, snacks, soda, toys and anything else they could think of.

I am really not sure how, but I did make it back here alive (and luckily so did the kids).  It has only taken me the last week to recuperate.
