All NASCAR All Day!

April 14, 2010 |  by Susan  |  All Posts

That is where I was Saturday April 10th.  I was basking in the splendor that is NASCAR at the Phoenix International Raceway.  I wasn’t even suppose to go.  My parents and sister had tickets, they are the real big NASCAR fans in the family.  Both my parents however ended up getting sick so gave their tickets to my oldest son and I.  Boy were they bummed.  They go to NASCAR every year but this year they bought a bunch of extras that they had to miss out on.

I got to do a bunch off cool things I didn’t get to do the last time I went (this was my 2nd race) :)  This race was a night race which didn’t start to 4:30pm, but we were there at 8am.  Why you ask?  Well first we got to take a 100 mile an hour ride around the race track about 5 times.  We didn’t get to do it in a real race car, more like a pace car, but it was still very cool.  Certainly not something I do everyday, nor will I probably ever get to do again.  Just to do it even once was awesome.

We also had pre race pit passes.  Got to see what goes on behind the scenes before the race.  The pit crews were getting all the tires, and gear ready for the big race.  We were in the pits pretty early so we didn’t see any of the drivers but it was still cool.

Watching the race

What would a race in AZ be without a dust devil?

Wow, that is a lot of tires, and that is just for one car.

Making sure the cars are good to go.

Kevin Harvick, hanging with his fans.

And the winner of the Subway 600 at phoenix International Raceway is........ Ryan Newman!!

well, I am behind, as you can tell by how long it is since you posted this and it sat in my inbox, because I wanted to read & reply! Hubby would of been so jealous! esp the the part where you got to ride around the track! we don’t have any Nascar tracks around us, but the nationwide used to race at the Milwaukee mile and he had gone to a few with a friend. they recently closed down, due to $$ problems.. it was the oldest mile long paved track in the country… hopefully someone will come along & get it going again, it is connected with the state fair grounds so it is a good location. And just being in Phoenix when weather here in WI is still brisk! We do have a favorite of Matt Kenseth, be was born & raised not far from our town, in Cambridge , WI, he started on the man dirt tracks we have. I bet your son enjoyed himself too.
thanks for sharing & the photos! Next time, call, I have a hubby who would be your slave to go with, LOL!
