What are your thoughts?

Is our world going to end in 2012 or perhaps more precisely the day of December 21st 2012?  Is the world going to be swept over by tidal waves that are hundreds of feet high?  Are volcanoes with molten lava going to spill over onto our land?  Are we going to have a geomagnetic reversal, or what some refer to as a polar shift that will shift the mantel of the earth in a matter of days or hours?

Do the Mayan calendar, the long count calendar, web bots, timewave zero and the I ching and so many other sources real or imagined actually predict the end of us all?  Honestly, I have no freaking idea.

I look at it this way.  For one I have lived through doomsday/second coming/WW III type predictions before and needless to say they never came to pass.  Take Y2K for example, although I don’t think it was described as our end of time, it did predict a lot of things that never happened.  I always wondered if those people who stocked up on duck tape, water and canned goods felt a bit foolish when it came and went without a bump.  They say the Mayan calendar ends on 12/21/12.  The Mayan are gone now.  Had they not disappeared (or whatever happened to them) wouldn’t they have continued on with their calendar?  Maybe the end of their calendar was just bad timing.

I personally don’t believe any of the doomsday prophecies.  For the sake of argument,  lets just say it was all true.  We wouldn’t really know until the day it happened if the prophecy (or whatever term you want to use to describe it) came to pass or not.  I am not going to live my life in a cave waiting for something that may or may not happen.  Also some “people” predict a wipe out of 99%  (actually 99. something  percent so I am rounding down here) of the earth’s population.  Chances are that no matter what I did, with only 1% of anyone left, and if I was a part of that 1% worldwide, then statically my entire family would be wiped out and who would want to survive with out them anyway?  Who would want to survive in a devastated world even it meant you were still alive?

Why would anyone want to fret,  freak, worry or search for the ultimate bunke  for the next 3 years when they could be out there living life to the fullest.  And lastly, if I thought any of this were real, I’d die of a stress induced heart attack long before 2012 ever got here.
