At least not when I am the one taking them. I was finally able to get my kids the H1N1 flu shot. For a time I was unsure how I would accomplish this. We moved here to Texas in July and none of us had a Dr yet. The news kept talking of a shortage of H1N1 shot here in Houston. It seemed the only way would be to stand in line for hours at the health dept (not fun with kids). Somehow I lucked out though. I found myself a Dr cause I needed refills on prescriptions and she agreed to give my kids their shots since she had them in her office (YAY!!)
I know kids hate shots, I did when I was their age so I get that. However both A.J. and Matthew had to get shots for school. Dh took them to the health dept for the shots and the poor boys had to get 4 and 5 shots respectively. A.J. started crying by the second shot but Matthew didn’t cry at all during his 5 shots. I really impressed with both of them. What big brave boys I have…..or so I thought!
I guess flu shots are a whole other issue for my once brave boys. Actually that is not the case at all. The issue was that it was daddy who took them for their school shots. I took them for their flu shot and you would’ve though the nurse was coming at them with a hot poker to their eyes. Obviously I had no issues from my 14yr old but the other two went completely ballistic. Screaming, crying and carrying on before they even got on the table to get the shot. Three office girls even poked their heads into the patient room to see what all the commotion was. I was mortified and totally embarrassed at my kids behavior. Why are they perfect little angels for their dad and little freaking screaming monsters for me? It is obvious they can get shots without throwing a fit, but with me they just choose not to behave and it literally drives me insane. I hate feeling like I lack any control over them.
Wanna know whats even better?? On December 3rd they have to go get the H1N1 booster to the shot they already got. I swear, dh better be home from Maryland by then cause if I have to take them to get their shot and they act like they did before there will be heck to pay from mama!!
I am glad they finally got the shot though and it is one less thing I need to worry about this season.
